Baggers cant corner !

Baggers cant  corner ! Ok yes big heavy low bikes can go around corners just  fine . But they have to stay within there  limits . This article in not about taking pot  shots at baggers , but make a few points that might be over looked .

Now we are not going to bother with those who ride foolishly .They know they are going to fast for the bikes limits .Where we start is why and how baggers get high sided ? First the lean angle for a bike varies . For example a Moto GP  bike  might lean up too 64-68 degrees . My old 1972 BMW R60 could  touch the  cylinders at about 40-45 ish degrees. My 1948 Panhead chopper maybe  20-25 degrees .While my Triumph TT600 will go over 50 degrees  with the right tires .

So how far can you lean a bagger ? Well it will depend ?  Here is what you will have to take into consideration . How wide the bike is  will effect  your lean. The wider the bike the sooner something will touch , Bags , floorboards , pipes ext . Next how low your bike is . This  might be obvious sure , but lets say your bike is high when you ride solo . Now add a passenger and luggage suddenly your bike is siting a lot lower . With most new  bikes and  heavy tour bikes you can adjust for  load so it will not lower your bike as much . How ever the extra weigh will effect handling . If a bike is back end heavy  your front end will  not turn in  as well . Speed is always a factor .

So what can we do to  not  get into trouble  with heavy big bikes ? First we  need to learn  our  lean angles . Start by  learning the low speed stuff , see what you can get away with . Then  practise loading the  bike . Test the handling  at all loads . Adjust your  tire pressure and suspension  properly .Always take speed and road angle into consideration . Road angle is often over looked .It will take time to learn your lean angles . Don't rush it . Be mindful  following faster riders. Know your own abilities . Learn your bikes limits . Much more can be said  on the subject but ill leave it here . Ride well ride safe take care .
