Never cross the line !
Never cross the line ! We have all done this at some point. Ive done it twice this year. Lucky no one was coming the other way . Usually it will happen on a corner we are not familiar with . A lot of times you will see cars truck ext cross the line coming the other way . We riders will then point the finger at them then do it our self's. All too often riders will play the blame game with cars . I don't like to look at it like that. I look at it this way instead . It doesn't matter who's fault it is if we are the ones who are going to get hurt . Its more important to not get into that situation in the first place . But what if the car is the one coming over the line ? I see this all the time on shallow corners let alone tight corners . In other words you should expect it . So what can we do ? If you use Out , In , Out while cornering we can pick our line before the corner .Adjust for the car cross over. In other words don't ride the yellow line . On blind corners I usually use the centre of my lane . So if a car is over I'm not in its line . And if there is a hay waggon on the other side I'm not in its line . If you can see right through the corner you can pick the best line for you.
Remember its not going to matter if its the other guys fault if you get hurt or killed . Do the adjustment on your side . Even if its not fair don't put your safety in other peoples hands .
Something else to consider . when we ride on strait stretches of road we can still have this problem . I often see riders hugging the centre line . This is not a good idea . Here's why ? If we have a car or truck coming at us and there a little over the hit will stop you dead , and you will be killed . The other thing is if a car goes to pass you on the double pass or passing line they can clip you when they come back into the lane . So don't ride too close to the double solid line . Move away more when its a passing line .
The last part .I see this happen all the time . Mostly with heavy bikes like touring bikes or Harley's . mainly on the right hand turn . The rider is in a drive way they turn right. As they turn they go out past the yellow line then come back in too there lane . If you catch your self doing this STOP IT YOUR GOING TO GET KILLED ! A few weeks ago this happen too a lady rider on her Harley tour bike . She came out of a drive way and crossed the line . She hit the oncoming car head on at low speed and was killed .
If you have a problem of riding over the line you need to check that . Practise your low speed handling till you don't do it anymore. Do not cross the line on corners either because you will make this a habit . On most roads we have 10-11 feet of lane for the most part that's lots of room. No reason to cross over even if we are riding a little fast . When we cross over the line we risk ourselves and others . Ride well ride safe take care .
